Happy April! We have two big news announcements for the world of Thread of Souls that we are excited to share with you!
Thread of Souls Soundtrack
That’s right! A musician we have partnered with has already composed a main TOS theme as well as a Sen and Jade character theme. Right now, we are in the earliest stages, but we are excited to begin building original sounds for this world. In the future, our hope is to have all of these available to listen to and enjoy on Spotify.
We have launched a new merch page! One of our primary features is our new Redbubble store. Right now we have merchandise with the TOS logo on it. Expect more merch across this year including shirts, character designs, and more. That page is also a good one-stop shop for art prints, books, and our DMG/Fantasy Grounds products.
We also are in the earliest stages of conceptualizing two more major merch launches, and we are excited to spread the news in the future! Don’t want to spoil anything just now haha.
ARC Book Launch Team
We are still adding to our growing ARC team! If you love fantasy and/or TTRPG’s, reach out to become a member of our team. You’ll get free copies of the books to enjoy as well as merch as a thank you for supporting our book launches.
Book IV of Thread of Soulsis more than halfway through its first draft. We are moving along smoothly and really excited for this release in December. Also stay tuned for a fun supplemental book release this summer!
That is all the news for this month! As usual, you can find us all over social media including a young YouTube channel. We also post twice weekly on this website. See you soon!

Calling All Readers!
We are building our first ever book launch team! With the Thread of Souls book four release planned for this December, we are seeking to build a team for its launch that will get ARC (Advanced Reader Copies) of the book. We are definitely looking for energetic, social media-savvy people who love fantasy and all things TTRPG’s.
If you haven’t read the previous series installments and are okay with hopping straight into book four, that is no problem! If you believe you can read the first three books this year to catch up, we are happy to give free ebook copies to those interested in joining the team. Please reach out, we are excited to hear from you!
Roll to Know
This past week we appeared on Hope for TTRPG’s “Roll to Know” Twitch stream. It was a super fun time to connect with others in this niche and get to know one another! If you didn’t get to see it live, the VOD is currently available. Enjoy!
As you can see, our website has gone through a face lift! We are really happy with the new layout and feel it is much more user-friendly and reads better for all of you to enjoy. We brought back the blog page that is much more organized this time, and our Art Gallery is cleaner!
Sneak peek! We have partnered with an awesome musician who will be composing music for Thread of Souls! We are very excited to share the main theme, as well as character themes, in the future. More details to come!
That is all for this month! As usual, you can find us all over social media including a young YouTube channel. We also post twice weekly on this website. See you soon!
We are a month into 2022 and have plenty of Thread of Souls news to share! It is exciting to begin rolling out our projects for the year ahead, and get a big picture on the way TOS will grow and enhance.
Book IV of the Thread of Souls “spider octology” is 1/3 of the way written. Part 1 is complete and is currently going through a round of edits before we move onto Part 2. You can see a behind the scenes feature on our YouTube!
We also have another supplemental book in the works that will be launching this summer! We are excited to share more details closer to time. It will be our first of many planned sister works for Thread of Souls.
We had an interview with Awesome Gang that you can read here!
We also launched our first DMG content of the new year with a super fun Ranger Scouts background. Continuing our relationship with Fantasy Grounds, it will be available soon on their website, as well!

January is National Hobby Month! When we created the world of Thread of Souls, we found our hobbies expanded and enhanced, bringing more joy to our lives. And while a lot of what we do can be turned around to promote our books, we always keep the philosophy that we are doing this for our own enjoyment and fun. It doesn’t matter if it ends up online or not. At its core, that is what a hobby is.
Thread of Soulsdid start, after all, from a hobby. We sat around a table and played a fully homebrewed TTRPG for fun. As the years passed, we realized we loved the story and these characters so much that we wanted to keep these stories forever. That was the start of the inspiration for this book series. Both of us are born writers that love to write and find a good deal of fulfillment in it.
But before the books began, there was the art. I don’t believe any of the early art has ever been posted online, but it was drawn after each game and depicted something that happened in-game. Art is also something we both always loved, and this gave another way to express it. We both actually hadn’t drawn in years before being inspired by this game.
And that has spun onto other hobbies. Building terrain, making videos, cosplay, designing tarot cards, and much more.
Hobbies bring such a great deal of fun and joy to life. It doesn’t matter whether you make it public, make money off of it, or even if you keep it entirely secret. The purpose is to bring you fulfillment and something to get excited about every day.
Share your hobbies with us! We’d love to hear about them!
It’s a behind the scenes post! This is our first in a series leading up to the launch of book four at the end of this year. We want to give you a look at what it takes to convert a TTRPG game into a book, and where we currently are at in the process.
We also released a video on our YouTube channel showing behind the scenes, which you can view here or below.
We began working on book four in the Thread of Souls “Spider Octology” in November of 2021. We currently have eight chapters completed and are nearly through Part 1! As we have announced earlier, the title of book four will be Asunder.
Step 1: Going Through the Notes
The first step in writing these books is going through all the notes. After each TTRPG game, we write down everything that happened in as much detail as we can remember. This also includes tones, character emotions, and general “vibes” of certain scenes. This takes 1 – 2 hours to complete.
At this point, the game was played about three years ago. So we go through all the old notes and turn them into a book outline. This involves dividing them into chapters, choosing character POV’s, and adding or removing scenes.
Step 2: The Writing Process
Now that we have a full outline along with a timeline for completing the book, we can get started with writing! Ashley will write one chapter a week. Then she sends it over to Scott who does the first round of revisions and suggestions.
There is obviously, much more editing to come at later stages. But for now, that is where we are at in the process!
You can find the books here. Don’t forget to check out our social media pages to see art, lore, and other fun bits from the Thread of Souls books!
As 2021 comes to a close, we want to take a look back at how TOS has grown and changed within 12 months. This year felt like the starting line for expanding Thread of Souls. With the official registration of our LLC, Tal & Ru Travels, earlier this year, the TOS brand took on a whole new identity. And a bigger future.
In September we published the third book in the series, Path of the Spiders. It’s had a great reception and we are so thankful for that! It has been the most fun to write yet.
We’ve got to establish a lot of great relationships within the online community. We did four interviews this year and you can find them all via our About & Contact page. We are excited to see the fruits of many relationships pan out across 2022. But no spoilers! Suffice to say we have some big things coming.
We also got to really expand Thread of Souls across 2021 when it comes to its online presence. Right now we are across Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and more and hope to continue growing. Our YouTube is very young, but we’ve already got a lot of cool videos up! We have been excited to share art and lore for the fans with these posts.
One of our biggest accomplishment of 2021 has been establishing a future vision for Thread of Souls. Expect big announcements and surprises all across 2022 as we expand the world of Corventos!
This is our first year to cover a holiday gift guide for fans of Thread of Souls! We hope to expand the list each year beyond this one with more books, merchandise, dice, and other goodies!
Our focus this year is where you can purchase the TOS books, as well as in what formats. These make excellent gifts for the people in your life that love reading, fantasy, D&D, or all of the above! Or yourself, of course. Treat yourself.
Currently all three Thread of Souls books are available in paperback and ebook format. The plan is to have all three also in hardcover by the end of this month. Audiobook will be coming next year!
Hello all and happy December! We are starting a new blog series called The Spool of Souls. This will focus on updates to the world of Thread of Souls so you don’t miss out on any big announcements.
There is plenty to talk about! As you can see, the website has been revamped. Our previous focus was on fantasy / D&D storytelling with Thread of Souls as a minor focus. But with three books already released, plans for further growth, and ever-increasing sales numbers, we have made TOS the primary website focus. But we will still share plenty of goodies on how to tell a good story, D&D, as well as fun story prompts.
We have a new logo reflective of the book series as well as new cover photos. This change affects the website as well as all of our social media presence. We also have changed our social media “handle” from Tal & Ru Travels to Thread of Souls. Tal & Ru Travels is still our LLC that all our creative works fall under, but this new name helps better define who we are. You can still find us on Twitter @ TalAndRu.
We are excited to be released a new string of content for your entertainment. Here is what you can look forward to coming this month:
The third book in the series, Path of the Spiders, is coming soon. Here is everything you need to know about the next installment in this epic fantasy series!
Thread of Souls: Path of the Spiders is coming August 27th! The third book in this 5-star rated fantasy series picks up where Ash & Thunder left off: the character groups were split up, each now facing their own dangers. Let’s take a look at this new book!
The words seemed to come unbidden from her, born out of nature themselves, as she said softly, “The world is in danger. We have to stand strong. The mind eaters are growing in power. And the spiders . . .”
Zok frowned, leaning closer as her voice dropped to nearly a whisper. “What about the spiders, Jade?”
The words rolled from her mouth again, almost outside of her control, barely audible. “The spiders are all gone. And nature feels it. And nature is afraid.”
“The adventuring group known as the Phantom Five is torn apart. While one group ventures through Artemis’ war-torn homeland, Unolé is flung across the planes with healer Taliesin, warrior Ruuda, and soldier Wash. All the four of them want is to go home. But this new world has its own dangers, and its own mysteries. They are forced to make dubious alliances to survive, and every escape attempt is blocked with a new threat. The shadow of the eerie ziggurat looms over the land, as do rumors of its growing army inside.
But within ancient temples, slave auctions, and blood rituals lie answers. Answers about Unolé’s stolen sister, Wash’s fugitive past, and the question that Taliesin ran away from home for. Where have all the spiders gone? Now they must ask themselves one final question. How much are they willing to risk for these answers?”
An intriguing mystery that has been talked about the last two books come into focus this third book. The missing spiders. Taliesin has discussed his interest in this event plenty, and other characters such as Jade have noted that it has been awhile since they’ve seen a spider.
The summary also tells us that we are at last entering the Southern Kingdoms, Artemis’ home that she has always avoided talking about. Rumors have spread to other characters of violence brewing in the Southern Kingdoms. Perhaps within lies answers to why Artemis has refused to return in all these years.
To discuss the cover, first let us take a look at the last two book covers. Each were designed to show hints at the story within.
In Phantom Five, we see lots of references to the story within. We see the desert known as the Expanse pictured, along with the ruins of Soleia that the group explored. In each corner we also see a depiction of the Sunsword Brother Zok obtains near the end of the book. In the center we see a feather, a reference to the feathers Unole gets at the start, but colored red like her mask. We also can see a subtle spiderweb in the bottom left corner. Foreshadowing?
In Ash & Thunder, we see a depiction of the castle of An’Ock that the group travels to. We can see a bow and arrow in each corner, a reference to the enchanted bow that Artemis obtains from her duplicate. We also see blue fire in the center. It is a mix up of the fiery red dragon fought at the end of the book, as well as the blue lightning-breathing dragon fought in the middle. The dark gray background alludes to the storm that surrounded the blue dragon. The spiderweb in the corner is much more prominent.
Finally we get a reveal of the third book’s cover! There is a ziggurat depicted in purple on the front, likely the one from the book’s summary. We see ravens in each of the four corners. The center image is two spiders inside a vial. And now in addition to the spiderweb in the bottom left, we also see one on the top left. It goes along well with the book’s promising title.
The Creation of the Book
This will avoid any spoilers as the book isn’t out just yet. The book has been in progress for the past year. As it is based off a D&D campaign, a critical point in the campaign was really a guiding light for the events of this book. One of the players had a schedule change, which prompted the party to split and two separate games to be played that followed the two different groups.
Unole’s feathers leads her and talkative healer Taliesin, pragmatic warrior Ruuda, sardonic soldier Wash, as well as the coatl Teshuva, into another plane altogether. Meanwhile Artemis is dragged off to her homeland and is pursued by the insightful Druid Jade, the enigmatic Wizard Skar, and the complicated Paladin Brother Zok. Let’s not forget about easy-going pirate Sen, who is still in the capital city An’Ock.
It was Unole and Wash’s players that needed to split off from the rest of the group. To compensate for the smaller party, Taliesin and Ruuda were created. Although in the books we have followed Taliesin and Ruuda’s story from the start.
